Phone carriers in the US and Canada
Two things live here. First, who actually holds the number blocks behind North American area codes, counted from NANPA's allocation records. Second, what each carrier publishes about its device insurance – and we only publish a carrier page once a person has read those terms off the carrier's own site.
Who holds the number blocks
Share of the 203,660 allocated number blocks we can attribute across 437 area codes. This measures allocation, not customers: people keep their numbers when they switch carriers, so a block held by one carrier may be serving another's subscriber.
| Carrier or group | Blocks held | Share | |
|---|---|---|---|
| AT&T | 49,486 | 24.3% | |
| Verizon | 33,684 | 16.5% | |
| Other CLEC / VoIP | 31,429 | 15.4% | |
| T-Mobile | 20,417 | 10.0% | |
| Lumen | 18,392 | 9.0% | |
| Onvoy | 13,152 | 6.5% | |
| Windstream | 8,233 | 4.0% | |
| Frontier | 5,852 | 2.9% | |
| Bandwidth | 4,809 | 2.4% | |
| Charter | 3,462 | 1.7% | |
| Brightspeed | 2,456 | 1.2% | |
| Comcast | 2,071 | 1.0% | |
| Spok | 1,939 | 1.0% | |
| Peerless | 1,268 | 0.6% |
“Other CLEC / VoIP” groups the long tail of competitive carriers and VoIP providers whose names our brand mapping does not resolve individually – it is a bucket, not a company.
Device insurance by carrier
No carrier pages are published yet.
What is not published, and why
Insurance deductibles and claim limits are figures people act on with their own money, so a page goes live only after someone has read the current terms on the carrier's site. We do not fill gaps with industry averages or figures copied from aggregators.
Could not be read: AT&T – the site returned an error page on every attempt, so there is no page for it.
Not checked yet (19): Cricket Wireless, Metro by T-Mobile, Mint Mobile, Visible, Google Fi, US Mobile, Boost Mobile, Straight Talk, Total Wireless, Consumer Cellular, Xfinity Mobile, Spectrum Mobile, Tello, UScellular, Rogers, Bell, Telus, Freedom Mobile, Fizz. Several of these MVNOs run no insurance programme at all, which will be the answer on their pages.
Details of the method are in methodology; the standard we hold pages to is in editorial policy.
